Volcan (Nils-Udo, 1985)
A curious piece that features several eggs in a circle of trees on a hill. The framing makes the piece almost look like a peek into another more liminal dimension than ours. This piece seems to illustrate Udo’s philosophy in a very literal sense, caging the natural life off from outsiders in the form of a circle of trees.
Crack in Lava, Blossoms Known as “Lanternes” (Nils-Udo, 1998 PIGMENT PRINT 96 X 124 cm ED. 8 + 3 AP´s)

A photograph taken of what appears to be cooled magma with a crack in the middle, where Udo places these striking red and yellow blossoms to represent magma. Even in this hazardous setting, Udo uses natural materials to sketch out his artwork and give it the natural life he gives all his works.

Clemson Clay – Nest (Nils-Udo, 2005, PINE TRUNKS, CLAY, BAMBOO 131 X 200 CM)

A piece that makes one think of a portal to another world, with pine trunks laying out the outer layer of the nest, bamboo in the middle circle, and clay in the inner circle. The framing of this piece makes the work feel ethereal and otherworldly, almost as though the nest itself is a holy monument not to be disturbed.

Radeau D’Autumne (Nils-Udo, 2011, CHESTNUT BRANCHES DEBARKED, DOUGLAS FIR TRUNKS, 124 X 160 cm)

A piece that is immediately striking due to the water’s reflection expanding the shape of the structure Udo created far beyond what it already is. The harsh angles of this shape almost make one think of an almost mechanical swan basking in the lake.

Landscape with Waterfall (Nils-Udo, 1992, Brussels, Belgium)

A piece set up and taken in an urban setting, this is an artwork that encapsulates much of Udo’s personal philosophies about nature. Nature and urbanism almost working in harmony, the water from the structure built seemingly nurturing the plant life on the road, the tree planted on the apartment building juxtaposing the lamp post stuck in the opposite side of the building.
